Acts 3:12-19

Hopefully today we have a more enlightened view of the Jewish culture that Jesus came from. Hopefully we see the common ancestry of the faiths. At the time this was written, that was a problem for some. Christianity became separated from Judaism very quickly. Marcion saw Jesus as a completely separate god. The formation of Christianity was not a gradual process. They would have been experiencing the changes. From Luke having Jesus "forgive them for they know not what they do" on the cross, to here, "I know that you acted in ignorance", the message is to the Jews. It was part of the prophecy. You are forgiven, now you just have to repent.

The "it" that begins this passage is Peter healing a lame man. He doesn't take credit for doing it. He gives the glory to God like he's supposed to do. That tradition continues when people give thanks to first responders or doctors.

1 John 3:1-7

This epistle continues with the back and forth about what sin is and what happens if you sin, even though you have to admit that you are a sinner. Maybe it is some sort of temporary state, where if you can hold the sin off long enough, you'll see Jesus and know what he is. Maybe hope is the key. The chapter goes on to talk about the devil. At least it says to love one another, can't argue with that. This is some heavy ancient mythology stuff about revealing and knowing and destroying the devil and on and on.

Luke 24:36b-48

Jesus just pops into this scene, out of nowhere. That he eats is significant, because they believed that a ghost would not eat. There are a few statements here about Jesus being bodily present. As with the Acts passage, it's about doing the things that can be found in earlier scriptures. The Jesus story doesn't come from nowhere. It was formed in the Old Testament.
