Isaiah 6:1-8
Before we found out what Bill Cosby was up to all those years, I knew him as a comedian. He was famous before vulgar language became the norm in comedy. In fact he told stories of his family life, and even did some Bible humor. One of his skits was titled "Noah: Right!", wherein God calls to Noah and gives him the bizarre instructions we know about and Noah says, "Right, who is this really?" It's much funnier in the telling, but this passage reminded me of it because it starts with a very famous response of "send me", but a couple verses after this Lection, turns into "How long, O Lord?"The details of exactly what God wants are not covered in the rest of the chapter, but it's clear that they won't be easy to implement. God wants Isaiah to speak to his people and he's telling him they won't get it. I'm sure he's talking about the kind of things Isaiah talks about later and that people of today still don't get; that to lead you need to serve, that you need to give to receive, that justice does not come easy, and the least of us are the ones we should be paying attention to and caring for.
